MOTORBIKE DESIGN is a software studied to help technicians and riders to analyze and to design the motorbike balance and the features of the rear suspension. In fact it allows to analyze the geometry of the motorbike, from the calculation of the center of gravity to that of the most significant technical parameters, and quickly to study the changes to vary the balance. Moreover it allows to analyze and to design the characteristics of the rear suspension allowing to easily find the most appropriate modifications to satisfy the required needs.

How it works?

The software Motorbike Design is structured to give to technicians and mechanics all the answers that allow to understand the features of the motorbike, and easily to study the modifications most opportune.

Allows in fact to calculate:

REAR SUSPENSION OPERATION

The position of the center of gravity is the characteristic that mainly influences the dynamic behavior of the motorbike, for this reason in the software Motorbike Design has been included acalculation that allows to determine it with a simple experimental test.

Thanks to the calculation inserted in the software it will be sufficient to do a couple of weighs of the motorbike to have the exact position of the center of gravity, both the horizontal that determines the balance, both the vertical that influences the load transfer.

The test studied allows to perform this calculation both for the only motorbike on the ground, both for the motorbike with the rider on board, in this way you can then see how the position and the weight of the rider affect the balance and the load transfer of the motorbike.

MOTORBIKE GEOMETRY and FUNDMENTAL TECHNICAL PARAMETERS

Other aspect very importante is the geometry of the motorbike and the fundmental technical parameters deriving from it. In fact, the set-up adjustments are aimed at varying these characteristics, therefore to know the starting situation and how the interventions that you'll make will affect each variable isfundamental to make adjustments and modifications in the direction actually desired.

Inserting also the characteristics of the fork springs e of the shock spring, the software calculates how change the fundamental technical parameters putting the motorbike on the ground, and with the rider on board. Wil be therefore easily to see the values of these parameters in function of characteristics of the suspensions and of the rider and motorbike weight.

After the analysis phase of the initial configuration the great feature of the software Motorbike Design is that to allow to see with extreme easiness the effects that some modifications techniques, or on the setting, have on the balance and on the fundamental technical parameters .

In fact is possible to see what changes by modifying:

- fork offset and steering angle (measures L and M)
- dimensions front and rear wheels
- fork length
- shock length
- rider weight
- saddle position
- rear suspension geometry (which we will see in the detail to follow)
- spring fork preload and stiffness
- spring shock preload and stiffness

For example we show the case of replacing the fork with a longer one than 10 mm. Thanks to the software Motorbike Design in an instant you will see how change the balance and all the fundamental technical parameters.

This can be done for all the quantities indicated above simply by entering the new value that you want to test in the appropriate field beside to the field of the initial configuration.

The software at the end of the calculation also shows the image of the chassis scheme based on the data entered, so it will be easy to check eventual errors in the data entry. In the image is also shown the position of the center of gravity, both of the motorbike, both of the motorbike with rider on board.

REAR SUSPENSION OPERATION

This area can be considered as software in the software, in fact it allows to analyze all the main types of rear suspension, therefore it will be easy not only see the initial characteristics of your suspension, but also design modifications or study a new suspension that has a new behavior in relation at your needs.

The data entry is extremely simple, in fact is sufficient choose the scheme of your suspension and put the dimensions of single elements shown in the figure.

At the end of the calculation the software shows the scheme of the suspension inserted, so it will be easy to check for eventual errors in the data entered.

The rear suspension is formed from a kinematic to obtain a variable stiffness curve, therefore to know how work the suspension for the different positions of the rear arm is fundmental to see which will be the rear balance in function of the load that act.

Depending on the type of mechanism and its geometry, the software calculates the shock movement in function of the wheel movement from the ground, or in function of the rear arm rotation angle. In addition calculates the lever ratio between the force acting on the wheel and that on the shock. In this way is easy to understand how change the stiffness of the suspension during the movement, and evaluate therefore eventuals modifications at the kinematic geometry to optimize the operation of the suspension for your need.

This functionality of the software as well as in the analysis of an existing suspension, can be used also to design a new suspension or to modify the existing suspension by varying the lengths of the linkages and thus obtaining different progressivity for different needs.

For example, we show how thanks to the software Motorbike Design is easy to see what happens to the behavior of rear suspension by changing the length of an element.

Thanks to this functionality you can then see how the changes on the rear suspension affects the balance and the features of the motorbike, and also how the behavior changes according to the loads to which is subject the rear.
